What have I read this week? Just one, and it’s very late, sorry.

We’re Here Because You Were There: Immigration and the End of Empire by Ian Sanjay Patel

This is a nonfiction book about immigration to the UK by people from the Commonwealth/former British empire. I found it really interesting, and it really made sense of the current situation with immigrants in the UK. I would definitely read more by this author.

What have I read this week? It’s late, sorry.

Golden Boy by Abigail Tarttelin

This is a novel about a teenage intersex boy who is horribly assaulted. I couldn’t finish this; it was too upsetting, partly because it was very well written. I might read more by this author, but will be checking the subject matter first.

Picnic at Hanging Rock by Joan Lindsay

This is a novel about an excursion to Hanging Rock in Australia where three schoolgirls and a governess go missing. I quite enjoyed this, although I found the ending somewhat unsatisfactory. I might read more by this author.

What have I read this week?

The Light Brigade by Kameron Hurley

This is a science fiction novel about Dietz, a soldier in a dystopian corporate world where Earth is at war with Mars. I really enjoyed this; the characters and the world were really interesting, and I really liked the way the story unfolded. I will definitely read more by this author.

What have I read this week?

Earwig by B. Catling

This is a novel about a man named Aalbert who has been hired to look after a girl who lives in an apartment and has teeth made of ice. I didn’t really like this; I didn’t really like the characters and didn’t really get the point of it. I probably won’t read more by this author.

The Seep by Chana Porter

This is a science fiction novel set in a future world where an alien entity called The Seep has interconnected everything and everyone on the planet. It follows a trans woman named Trina who loses her wife to The Seep. I really liked this; I found the idea fascinating and the characters were interesting. I will probably read more by this author.

Tell Me I’m Worthless by Alison Rumfitt

This is a horror novel about Alice, Ila and Hannah, three friends who go into a haunted House. I am not sure how I feel about this one; it raised a lot of issues about modern Britain and the rise of anti-trans rhetoric and modern fascism. It was definitely interesting and I would probably read more by this author.

The Mirror Empire by Kameron Hurley

This is a fantasy novel, the first in the Worldbreaker Saga, about a world where people have magic that allows them to call on the power of various stars. I really liked this although it took me a little while to get into it as there are a lot of characters to keep track of. It’s a really interesting world. I will definitely read more by this author.

2666 by Roberto Bolaño

This is a novel which is apparently about the murders of women in a city, but I didn’t get that far. I didn’t like this and didn’t finish it. I wasn’t interested in the characters or the story. I might read something else by this author, but only if it’s a lot shorter than this book.
